After investigating the idea of shortening my long bed by an assortment of methods including cutting a section out of the long frame and welding it back together to make it a short frame, I decided on a different approach. Instead of cutting down my long bed frame, I would just find a short bed frame and swap my good long bed body onto it... except for the box of course. I found out that the long box and the short box differ only in the length of the bed sides. The front of the box and the tailgate of the box are the same for long or short beds. So, I just needed to find a short frame and two short bed sides to turn my long bed truck into a short bed. And, that is exactly what I am doing. Another find on Craigslist sent me on another hunting trip for truck parts.... this time to Iowa. There I found a very nice 1965 short frame and the two short bed sides I needed.
