Since I will need both the box front and the tailgate from the long bed I needed to start taking that apart. That meant I needed to remove the plywood bed wood the PO had installed. He did a very nice job of it and I kind of cringed to have to undo all his nice work, but I plan on using the oak bed wood as was originally installed... after I convert to a short box. The plywood was 3/4" and pretty heavy... a good choice for a bed that was being used for what truck beds usually are for... hauling stuff.... I got my pneumatic impact wrench going and removed a million bolts in a hurry.... except for a few stubborn ones that insisted on stripping out.... which I had to grind out to remove. |
With the plywood removed the box looks a little nasty, but the steel is in excellent shape. The box front, the tailgate and those wheel housings are going to mate up with the newly acquired short bed sides nicely and then bolt factory-correct to the short frame. I guess I will have a pair of very nice long bed box sides and a very nice 1965 C10 long bed chassis for sale somewhere down the road. |
