Wow. I am completely blown away by how well my new sandblasting attachment for my power washer is working! For about $50 I got the attachment from Northern Tool along with some $3 bags of Mason Sand and I am able to clean my short frame down to the metal. It leaves you with a new beach in your yard, but it's quite amazing. After reading reviews about the tool I knew that keeping the sand dry is paramount for success.... so I filled up an old trash can with it and elevated that in order to help the siphon feed to the gun. I keep the lid on the can while blasting and so far it has kept the sand dry and has worked well. I hope to finish up blasting the frame today and then getting it covered with POR15. Light surface rust appears pretty quick but since the POR15 is made to Paint Over Rust, I'm not too worried. I think the blaster recommends a 3000 psi pressure washer, but my 2500 seems to be working. |
Near the end of the day I noticed the blaster wasn't working quite as well as it had been... and then when cleaning up later I found out why. The blasting sand had cut through the metal tubing close to where the sand enters the gun. Now, I wonder if there is some way to fix that... maybe welding it closed again? |
